HOW TO USE THE POWER OF PERSUASION

Recently, in a training exercise where I used the jungle as a metaphor, I saw someone with the right answers to a dilemma – and the life-experience to arrive at those right answer – yield to his team mates who had the wrong answers.

PROSPERITY IN NATURE

Monkeys know where their next meal is coming from. The 5 simian species that live in Costa Rica expect to eat well and they organize themselves accordingly. The "Congo" (Howler monkey), the Titi or Squirrel monkey, the "Capuchin" or Whiteface monkey, the Wooly monkey and the Spider monkey all enjoy an incredible bounty but they don't rely on Providence.

RULES FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

National Geographic Magazine had a devastating article on "Global Warming". With scientific graphs and haunting photos, they examined the state of the Biosphere from 3 perspectives they called its Geo, Eco and Time Signs. The challenges we face are huge. We have to rethink our handiwork and how we treat our world. Read More...

THE POWER OF SYMBOLS AND WORDS…

The ancient Jaguar-kings of tropical America used pictures and ideograms to communicate ideas. Ideograms are totem-images that explain larger concepts. CONSISTENCY IS PERSUASIVE

I heard a woman gasp when I mentioned the “Poison Dart Frog” – i.e. when I specifically said the tiny red and blue amphibian secretes a poison that can contaminate the water reservoir of a population of 500,000 people. It is quite small but very deadly and therefore extremely persuasive.

HOW NATURE CHAMPIONS STRATEGY

You’ll recognize the deep wisdom in Nature by observing patterns in the larger "web of interactions". Notice how everything interacts in two ways: Sequentially and Simultaneously. Sequential events (i.e. one thing happens, and then another, in a logic path...) allow us to make "decision-tree choices". Simultaneous events require a more intuitive way of thinking that begins with an understanding of "games theory choices".
